After reading this topic even though its pretty old I have just about made up my mind. All i really want is a stang and 400whp nothing to crazy. 400whp will be enough for me. After reading this i have come to the conclusion that it would only cost me about 5k-6k to get a rice burning stang.

Now correct me if i'm wrong, using the stock block and just adding the AFR 185cc heads w/1.6rockers and the Blowzilla w/Flowmaster @10psi will get me to roughly 400whp?(of course i know i need a tune) If thats all that i'll need to go burn me some evo's then i'll be happy. Now i know their are other things i have to beef up like the suspension and rear end.

I wouldn't be able to do the same w/ my new 4.0L stang. The Powerhouse turbo (https://mustangforums.com/m_1419833/tm.htm) will only generate about 330whp which is good for the Six but i want the growl of the smal block V8. That and the mods for the fox will be a lot cheaper. I've made up my mind, now alls i need is to get my fox. One step at a time lol. I thank you all for helping me make a hard decision.

I'm planning on doing MOST of the work myself or w/ my dad so i'm excited being as i've never really had the chance to work on a car before.

There are tons of people in here running heads less than AFR 185's and running 10psi vortechs and making 400-425rwhp.

If you want to use the AFR 185's you will need new notched pistons.
Personally you could do some AFR 165's or TwistedWedge heads with stock pistons and still meet your 400rwhp goal.

Ok, didn't know that. Its not like i'm dead set on getting AFR185's. I'm just looking at seeing whats possible for the least amount of money. Like i said, before i even think about modifying a car i don't have is to get a fox or SN95 Cobra that i like and get it into good running condition. I just like to over think things sometimes, setting goals which motivate me whenever i'm not sure of things. anyways, i'm gonna save up to get my 2nd car first. I just like to know what the 5.0L is easily capable of.

Oh and, How stirdy and reliable are these 5.0L Fox Body's and SN95's?

very reliable. 302 is a great engine that will take a beating and ask for more.

they are getting old now so you'll have the normal stuff like
shocks, water pumps, heater core, electrical and other assorted bugs
to chase from time to time, but nothing major.
