hope ya like losing 'cause a manual will whip on an auto all day long... with an auto the trans/computer shifts meaning lower rpm shifts...manual you choose when to shift(higher RPM) and manuals are just fun

Autos are more ineffectient trannies. The only reasons I would use one:

1) Bracket racing for consistant ET's

2) When I'm pushing so much power I fry clutches left and right

Given that there are no traction problems, a stick will beat an auto down the 1/4 mile.

So you have to row the gears, that's fun. You have complete control over the engine. That's how it should be.

as for pushing so much power you burn clutches...a higher price heavy duty clutch will hold alot better than any auto will..

the constant E.T's is the only reason i can think an auto would be usefull....but a skilled manual driver can get constant et's no problem

I hate to say this, but a clutch will hold up. Maybe not the cluth in our mustangs, but clutches will hold up. There are several outlaw drivers out there pushing well over 1000 bhp and running manuals. Plus, all those fuel cars run race clutch setups similar in idea to our clutches, but much much stronger and with multiple discs.

Diffs hold up pretty well to high hp. Now a 7.5 is pretty weak, but the 8.8 is a pretty solid rear. It can be built to hold up to quite a bit of hp. Now the 9 inch.......

top fuel dragsters pushing who knows how many HP use a CLUTCH the 2 clutch plates to get melted together creating a direct drive but it is infact a clutch

I've personally fried over $1000 in clutches in the Chevelle, triple plate clutches (essentially 3 clutches in 1) in the automatic tranny.

Those outlaw dragsters that run manuals probably aren't doing that well (it's bracket racing). It's the gears you really gotta worry about, along with the axles.

Top Fuels, as well as sprint cars and some others (can't remember), are DIRECT DRIVE.

They are only direct drive when the clutches are engaged. They do not have transmissions, but how else do they sit at the line without rolling through the beams? The have a clutch.

I wasn't talking about outlaw dragsters. I was talking about the NMRA street outlaw class for mustangs. They are up to 1500 hp in a full body mustang. Some of them push into the 7.7 second range. Most of them are manual transmission cars. Almost every Pro 5.0 class car runs a manual trans of some sort.

for one...the 4 cyl. bell housing is probabably too small for the 5.0..I know mine was...I tried it..and its worthless trying...in the quarter you have no chance with a stick vs an auto because even the fastest shifting drivers in the world can't outshift a good auto...i mean..come on guys..and another thing is that he is gonna have a fun time putting in the pedal box. They suck..trust me..he should just stick with the auto and get a 2500 rpm stall converter..with some other upgrades that will bring up good ET's.
