RE: What grade of oil...
alot of that is up to personall preference and opinion
i use 10W30 year round fine.
also it depends on your current climate.
one might be better in the summer, but not as good in winter.

RE: What grade of oil...
yes 10W30 is what is recommend but engine oil's
have come a long way and you have many more options available
now, than when that manual was written back in the mid '80's
Go down and talk to the guys at your local oil change shop.
Get their opinion on the pluses and minuses of different oils
and your particular climate and time of year

RE: What grade of oil...
It's all in your climate. When I first fire up my car I'll be running regular 10w30 (spring, wearing in valve-train), then next oil change, I'll be running 15w45 Synthetic(summer), then after that 10w30 Synthetic(fall). But it all depends on preference, really, I could run 10w30 forever without a problem, just I prefer to go thicker in summer, and since it's synthetic, it's thinner than regular 15w45 anyway (which is why I never run synthetic on the first time through, will screw up your valve train in a hurry)

I run 5w-30 Valvoline Max Life Synthetic, I just tried the stuff and it seems to make the motor run a LOT smoother, IDK how to explain it, I used to just run regular valvoline Max Life (for cars with over 75,000 miles), both of them have worked great but in Winter and Fall Colorado tends to have a colder climate, during the summer we have 90-100 degree days.
