Default Ashtray repair made EASY (WITH PICTURES)

I'm not sure if anyone is interested but I did find a easy way to fix my ashtray lid or door on my stang. IF your lid just has the little tabs broke off that allow it to piviot and you still have your little spring, then this fix is for you!

All I did was take a small drill (i'll post the size when I get home) and drill out a hole where the pegs used to be. This fix requires you to take out the center console so you can drill these holes in the plastic. The first hole is easy because it is a plastic drop fron the console, the second hole is a bit more tricky, you have to drill by the cigerette lighter crevice. You can choose to go all the way through or just go about half way through.

Next you need some little screws, don't worry about nuts they will make their own threads and hold decently. Pick up a couple of washers to help it piviot easier.

Now this sounds like crap on paper, but if this sounds like a worthwhile feat I can post pics of what I did before I put my console all back together. All in all this fix may be 5 bucks depending on if you have to buy the drill, screws, and washers....Mine was free because I just had these lying around. Also once it's done you can't tell it was ever broke.

Just let me know if your interested.
Thanks,

yea they do make a kit for about 20 bucks or so.....wouldn't you rather fix it for almost nothing. I don't know about you but 20 bucks fills me 3/4 up in gas!!!! I'll get some pics when I get home later!

Russellville, AR it's running about 2.149 a gal here for reg, my car has over 260,000 miles on it so it rarely gets anything higher unless it's the same price She's my daily driver and still gets about a average of 290 ~ 300 miles per tank. I drive mostly interstate to work every day so I feel up several times a week. I spend about 200 or so a month on gas here.

As long as you have your little "arms" still on your ashtray door, then I can help you fix this thing. I'll try and get some pics posted soon.
