I'm doing a 460 swap right now and I'm only 20 years old with little mechanical training. Just look around on the net and ask any mechanics you might know for info. Most aftermarket parts places have pretty good guides for matching parts to make the kind of power you want. You just have to remember that you're not building a curcuit racer with that big block up front.
