Default cooling fan question

Im still trying to finish my 5.0 swap in in my 89 convert which started life as the 2.3. Im now trying to tackle the fan issue. Will my electric fan from the 2.3 liter setup be suffient to cool my 5.0 well. Again this car will be just to cruise. I wont be running it to hard. I appreciate those who have helped me with this swap so far. I have done a few classic Mustangs but this is my first later model. Worlds of difference. Thanks again.

Are you still using the radiator from the 2.3?

think you will need the radiator from a 5.0 car as the heat shedding need for a V-8 far exceeds the needs of a 2.3L 4 banger. no since taking the chance of overheating all the time. personally, I have the FRPP replacment aluminum radiator in my 88 with a Flexalite puller electric fan and it works just fine! got both from Summit racing mail order. you probalby can get a better price from Holcomb Motorsports in Lumberton, NC, they specialize in Mustang parts and beat Jegs and Summit on a lot of the hot parts.

I got a new radiator for the 5.0 motor. I was just wondering if the old stock electric fan for the 2.3 would work as it is an easy bolt up.

I have a 14" electric puller fan without a fan shroud. It does the job. I had a 2.3 but I don't remember what size the fan was. Does it have duel fans? It's worth a shot. If it doesn’t work replace it. Just don't drive it too far before you have tested it. Let it idle if that's Okay drive it around the neighborhood, if that's ok get on it and see what happens. Just be very careful not to over heat.

can't hurt to try it and see, but be ready to stop and let it cool off if it don't so you don't cook the oil in the motor. coolant temp should stay below 200 degrees or so.
