I have a '91 mustang lx 5.0. What the hell is that whine coming from the car whenever I turn the ignition on? It stays on when I turn the car over too? Is it the fuel pump? How do I quiet it down?

Yes,..My gues would be that is the fuel pump,..as far as quietting it down,..I really don't have an answer for you,..I will be installing a new fuel pump coming shortly,..I'll let you know if it gets quieter.

usually when your fuel pump get that loud it is about ready to go out. replace it and it should hep withthe noise. check to see if the sound deading insulation is in place in the trunk also.

definitely is the fuel pump! they are noisy by nature but when they whine that loud, they're usually on their way out. helps to run the tank at least half full so the pump stays cooler, running the tank almost empty is not a good thing for an in tank pump! you might change the fuel filter first though because if it's almost plugged, it's making the pump work harder and that could be why it's whining and the filter is a whole lot easier to check/change than the in tank pump!

hmmmmm....my friend has that same problem on his 03' cobra...it comes from this extra pully that i dont have on my 91 mustang...and when he goes fast it gets really whiny and stuff! LOL

hmmm on my 94 gt every time i floor it or just burn out i hear lilttle squiky noize coming from within the engine when i stop and leave the car on........... any idea?
