Default RE: a few tech questions

Just the starter spins? Or is just the motor spining? Suggestion i have is to check your plugs and wires first. Has there been any mods to the car? Since you just bought the car i would go get a tune up or do it yourself . Its usally the simple things even could be a clogged fuel filter. But give some more info if you could . Good Luck!!

Yea, go through the whole thing, new plugs, wires, distributor cap/rotor, air filter, fuel filter, maybe even a new coil.

If the contacts in the distributor cap are coroded and/or the rotor then that wouldn't help your engine run well. That's def something you should do anyways since you don't know how old the ones on there are.
