Default lightest mustang

I was wondering how light someone could get a 5.0. My 87 GT weighs about 3070 and I was thinking of getting a fiberglass hood and hatch along with a tubular k member & a arms and a coil over conversion.

it all depends on what you're willing to do without to get the weight down. in my '88 which is a race only car, I got rid of the air pump, AC compressor and condenser, power steering, all stock seats and seat belts, front sway bar, radio, center console, fog lights and mounting bracket, speakers, winshield wipers and washer reservoir etc. also installed Centerline Autodrag wheels, 15 x 5 in front with smaller tires and 15 x 8 in rear with 26x9 slicks. with a lightweight racing seat and 5 point harness the car now weighs in at about 2,940 lbs without the driver or so depending on how much gas is in the tank and that's with a 9" rear too. there's still a lot of weight in it with all the sound deadening insulation materials and heater/ac box etc. which may be another 100-150 lbs or so but I just ain't got around to removing it yet. depends on how much money you want to spend for fiberglass parts and lexan windows, etc. remember speed costs money, how fast do you want to go!

if your car weights that much now tehn you doing great!! What has been already? Do you have Aluminum driveshaft yet? How about a Aluminum flywheel ? Remove the AC and get lighter pulleys relocate battery and get smaller battery .Get rid of GT seats and get rid of back seats . im not sure how light your car can go but im on my way to see also and i wish you luck man .. Keep us posted on ur progress. STinger--->

why is the alum flywheel track only?
and fiberglass doors too?
is it for side impact reasons?
