Default ford racing 373? what others?

Hey i wnat to know if there is a difference in ford racing 3.73 gears and other 3.73 gears? Is there 2 different brands u can choose from? i bid on some factory ford 3.73 gears on ebay and i want ot know if they are good for my 8.8inch gear box thing in my 86' mustang gt?

thier is many makers of gears......the FMS come with the shim kit and sleeve most others do not and most of the time you can used the same shims out of the rear in your car now...others usely don't.....I have seen FMS gear for 139.95 new

3.73's are a great rear gear! in addition to FMS, now FRPP, you can try Richmond gear, Precision Gear, Motive Gear, and a bunch of others. I had the FMS 3.73's in my 88 and they worked fine. just make sure you get a street gear, not a race gear, the metal hardening process is different for both of them and race gears don't survice well on the street.
