The last thing you want to do is "pick" a cam based on how it's going to sound.

Ok, I'll give you a example..my own car.

I have a ~10:1 306
Canfield heads, 2.02 INT, 1.60 EXH valves
Stealth intake
Barry Grant Silver Claw 650 ( race demon )
My cam is in the 222* and .500 lift range. Idles smooth and makes great power. Engine has good vacuum. No issues driving in town or traffic.

Now, put a X cam in there and I guarantee it won't be as driveable and I bet I lose power. But it sure will sound cool.

My point is this, I have good heads, good intake and a good carb. You don't need a bumpy cam to make it work.

Well if you want the best, read not cheapest: Call or email Jay Allen at Camshaft Innovations. He put my combo togeather. He does custom cams and Canfield heads. The heads are complete with valves and the springs will match your cam. If you have him do your cam it will be to YOUR car and engine. You will get alot more than a cam & heads or just a cam from him, you get knowledge. In other words, it's good money spent.

im waiting for my cam to arrive in the mail, i went the ed curtis route, cost was 325 for a roller cam. also got everything else needed for it as well, lifters and pushrods, springs, and a roller timing set for a grand total of right around 800.

this goes in my car which is running a edel performer289 intake with a holley 650 dp and afr165 heads. right now its got a mild tappet cam, so im expecting some very noticable gains with the custom roller.

the only thing i wish i could go back and change would be the intake, its a little mild considering the rest of the combo. ill probably be switching it for a stealth. other than that, it was all money well spent
