That's because in '86 they used crappy swirl port heads, if anything they should say Ford skipped a year in '86. Thankfully the engine still put out enough torque. But headers from an '85 are still headers. Headers made for an 87 and up 5.0 WILL work just fine for an '85.

Also, since hardly anybody uses the stock '85 heads and Gt40 etc.... heads fit any 5.0 of that generation headers are interchangable.
While the 86 was a stepping stone, the same headers for an 86 is the same as a 93....The 85 had a Y pipe and was redesigned to an H in 1986, the full 1986 V8 exhaust was used on 87-93 LX's without change. As for the 86, it actually had a hotter cam, but as mentioned, the heads were the limiter. I used to blow away Vettes and Camaros until half track back in the day....but they ran out of breath above 5000 rpm

Yeah, the unfortunate thing about the '85 was the single exhaust... also, the heater core sucked big time..
