My first car was an 86 four banger. That was a good car. I love the way the front looks on an 86 but I perfer the interior of the 87+.

the ineterior looks ok to me, the biggest problem is the fact its so hard to find replacement interior parts. it seems like everything starts out like this: door panels 87-93....instrument cluster 87-93... oh well...

50resto.com seems to have a good number of parts. It is true there's not as many since that whole package as it was (body, interior, everything) was only made from 84-86. But yea, I've only seen two other four eye GT verts in the two or three years I've had mine and dont' remember seeing any before that either. It's def something I've come to like more, I think I wanna put on the newer side skirts and maybe an aftermarket rear bumper cover before I paint it this summer. What do you guys think that would look like? Dont' know what bumper yet, any suggestions?

Just pull the same thing i did. Swap all of your interior to 87 and up parts. It cost me $150 for a COMPLETE interior from a wrecked 87-93. The front bumper cover and supports were going to cost me about $250. I'm glad I stayed with my 86 nose now.....and I'm glad I found such a deal on the interior parts!

I might have to look into the interior parts for mine, that might be cool. What exactly can you replace? Did you do the dash as well as everything else? Also did they make the 87-93's interiors in red? I can't think of one I've seen off the top of my head.

I replaced it all....seats front and rear, door panels, headliner, dash, kickpanels, and quarterpanels. oh yeah...carpet too. The only snag you may hit is going to be dash alignment problems....i had to redo a couple of upper dash bolt spots by using sheet metal screws on the factory tabs..... and rear quarterpanels...the 87 and up are deeper at the rear window and require either trimming or switching to the 87 and up quarter windows. Since i was keeping the outside in 86 mode...i trimmed the 87 quarters to fit the 86 windows. And the 88 or 89 had red interior......a buddy of mine had 2 with red interiors. both were 89, one GT and one LX.
I'll try to find a link to a red interior......i have one somewhere.....
yup...scroll to bottom of this page and you'll see a red interior example.

i just noticed that yours is a 'vert....you can probably dodge the whole window/quarter panel fitment problem then.

Hmm, that's something to think about then cause that would be cool. Don't know about the rear though since it's a vert. I'd probably have to get that stuff out of another convertible. Maybe I could just do the door panels and dash, if I could find one in red, but what about the steering column, did you have to change any of the controls on that?

yeah....you need to get the column cover from a 87 to 89 or 90 because of the different steering wheels. And as far as the controls go....I will need to do some minor trimming with a dremel. It'll turn out well though......I'm patient. =)

That's one of the things that was on my Saturday morning list when the move came into play. More on that as I get there.

Cool, I'll have to stop by the mustang salvage yard around here this summer when I'm home one day. See what he's got for cars and interiors. That would be a neat project to do, gotta take care of the outside first though.
