i tried getting to the top bolt with an open end and it was a pain in the *** i could only move the wrench about 15 degrees, the only thing i could think of to make it easier would be to come behind the headers with a real long extention on a racthet but i didn't have one that would reach, just that top bolt ate my lunch

why take it out 3 or 4 times? sounds like you did it wrong, maybe shoulda spent more time on it. really though i had a mustang that ate starters, now thats a PITA! even at 20 minutes a piece it got old quick.

there should be plenty of clearance to get to that top bolt from underneath the car. iirc, i just used a normal ratchet/socket/short extension

It keep getting in the way of the header because the header was wrong then the solenoid went out.

Try either a combo wrench or a ratcheting combo wrench. It works but be prepared to wear your arm out.
