Default Back to '86 instrument panel lights...

I didn't get any response to this (maybe because it was far down another thread or maybe no one knows!). Anyhow, I'll ask again regarding the 'red' dash (instrument cluster) lights on my 86.

Back to the instrument cluster 'red' light. Does anyone have any experince with this LED lighting stuff? Would it be feasable for me to wire up some red LED's to the factory instrument cluster bulb sockets?

Instead of buying another instrument cluster just to have the 'all red' dash I was thinking about these. Might be able to even add a few more to other locations (air vents, under seats, etc.).

Does anyone have any experience with interior LED lighting? Would the be bright enough for the instrument cluster? Would they be about to be wired to the existing sockets (12v I assume)? Would they work with the 'dimmer' POT?

As always....thanks for any help!

THATS MY CAR MAN!!!!!!lol... was just like that till I painted her. Anyhoo, I thought those were just bulbs. The leds Im sure would work just fine, and be bright enough. The only thing I would check is to make sure the proper voltage is going to the LED .

Factory is bulbs with little 'red' covers. Some of my 'red' covers are missing. I have 1/2 red dash lights. Might be hard for me to find the 'red' covers. Thought that removing the bulbs and wiring some red LED's to the bulb sockets would be fairly easy. I've just never used LED's in a vehicle before and wondered if they would be bright enough (compaired to the original bulbs) to light up my instrument cluster.

Thanks for the response!

Or you can just take your lightbulbs, and spraypaint them red. My grandfather used to do this on older trucks and cars that the color cap had fallen apart.

Check out this website. www.whitegauges.net. They have what looks like bulbs but have led's in them. I believe you can just buy the led's. I have never ordered from them but I had the website in my favorites for when I had my 86. I was going to order some whiteface gauges but sold the car before I got around to it. I hope this helps.
