Well actually he isnt totally out of his mind. I used to work for a oil and lube place and learned alot about oil and havoline is a really good oil manufacture . As for being better then Mobil i think so . But synthetic is probally the best for some cars but not all cars . I used to run 20/50 Havoline in my Trans Am . With high milage and hot as San Antonio got it was perfect in summer time. I remember when Mobil was next to cheap priced oil as 1 can get dont know when they got so popular but maybe they did a turn around who knows . Just keep using what makes you happy and what your car likes i dont think you are gonna go wrong with Mobil. But let me ask you a question how do you know Mobil 1 is better ? Cause it cost more or cause someone told you? I know some people who just love Penzoil and thats all they will ever use . And why did this guy say Havoline was better then synthetics? Havoline makes a synthetic as well so he might be just talking plain Mobil oil to plain 10/30 Havoline. So its your opionion against his so happy driving lol

synthetics are better, not because they cost more, but because they lubricate better. The molecules are all identical, unlike conventional oils. It's like comparing pea gravel to ball bearings - try sliding a large heavy object across gravel and then slide it across the ball bearings. IIRC they're also smaller molecules for better flow. But if you've got a high mile car, you might not want to switch to synthetic as you might find seapage turning into leaks.
I don't run synthetics longer than traditional oils because no matter what oil you use, you're going to be absorbing contaminates at the same rate, and the additives only last so long.

I agree that synthetics are better. They don't break down as badly with high heat and they maintain their lubricitiy longer than conventional petroleum based mineral oils. They also have better additive packages to maintain anti-wear properties. Some people leave the oil in for 10,000 miles but still change the filter every 3,000 miles to remove the contaminants and make sure the filter is not getting plugged and allowing the oil to bypass the filter, especially when it is cold. I think that stuff about synthetics causing leaks is just an old wives tale! And synthetics won't make rubber seals leak either!

I don't think synthetics will cause leaks, but I think that if you've already got a leak it could be worse with a liquid that flows better.

I use MOBIL 1 15/50 FULL SYNTHETIC in my 331 and its by far the best oil ive ever used!

The guy telling you that bull **** about synthetics has no clue what hes saying or is oldschool and needs to get with the times!

You try MOBIL 1 full synthetic or any synthetic for that matter and tell us what you think?Im sure you will be happy.

I changed oil at no longer than 1,000 miles with conventional and with this stuff im leaving it in 3,000.10,000 in between oil changes is just stupid and i dont care what anyone says! You want to leave oil in your car that long by all means go ahead but some of us are a little wiser than that.

The synthetics will last longer so it gives you a little more of a buffer if you're really busy when you should change your oil. Then you can wait a little longer and not have to worry as much. I did mine at like 3500-4000 last time cause I was at school and couldn't do it here and the oil was still somewhat translucent. It was mobil 1.

no years ago syth. oil did make engine leaks..this was not the oil's foght it was the poorly made gaskets..this has been changed..the best feature where syth, shines is at the cold start as if flow very well when cold and like said above doesn;t beak down like crude......and if you change your oil in the 5k range cost really isn't an issue...A FILTER IS MORE OF AN ISSUE THAN OIL..
