ah, the 2.3L to 5.0 swap. Its not as easy as an engine change. You will need a donor car. Complete car. The rear will need changed, the instrument cluster needs changed, brakes (including m/c), suspension, fuel lines, most likely the trans, oh..... and the motor. There is a lot in swaping everything out, but if you are into this kind of thing it is lots of fun. My convertible started life out as a 2.3L. Now its a modded 5.0 with cheap insurance rates.

Dude, its no problem. I went in and failed once. When I saw the paper I laughed and asked the idiot running the machine if he ever heard a 4 cyl. making so much rumbling noise. He didn't believe it was an 8 until I popped the hood. Passed with flying colors after that little oversight. Having a mass air motor makes passing a bit easier.

Hahaha nice. I still had trouble with my 93, and if you took it to the one by Loius joliet mall, we had them tested at the same place... I must have something strange going on. Even after I replaced the cats I didn't get through. </P>

I ended up getting a waiver because the cost of the cats was so high. The guy took the car in the little garage on the side and checked to see if I had anything done to the engine. Since it's stock, they gave me a waiver, but it's only good for a year, and I got the forms to retest it the other day. </P>

That is odd. You sure the smog pump is working properly and that the check valve is ok? These 5.0's should be able to handle all kinds of mods before having to worry bout the emissions. FYI, I have a large Lunati camshaft in the car... that, in essence, should have KILLED my ability to pass emissions more than anything. But I am not even close to failing.<edited><editID>converted</editID><editDate>37782.021087963</editDate></edited>

Hey converted you said something about a large cam and still passing the sniffer?I just got my track heat manifold W/1" heat spacer and am going with the twisted wedge heads. What do you think is the hottest cam I can get away with and still pass?Any info you have on this will be greatly appreciated considering you already accomplished this feat.

I can't exactly remember my duration but lift is .512 on both ends and 1.72 roller rockers. It has a fair idle. I have heard of cars passing the Illinois sniffer running X cams before. My neighbor passed with his '94 running a complete edelbrock upper setup with the edelbrock equivelent of an F cam. If your car is running good, passing the sniffer ain't that bad.<edited><editID>converted</editID><editDate>37782.0388310185</editDate></edited>

One thing you will want to do is run a 195 thermostat. The hotter the engine is running, the better the emissions output is.

Thanks, you da man.I talked to one of the tech guys at summit but I think he was full of sh** beacause he said the E cam would be perfect, because it does not fall on its face till 6000 or 6500.I would say idle to maybe 5500 what do you think?
