RE: What years
just checked in the stang book, i thought they didnt come in stangs until 69.
but they were indeed availible in 68. i dont think they were very popular in the 68's.
because i've never seen a 68 with a 302?

right on. but if it says that the 82 and 83 v8 mustangs came with anything less than a 302, then your book is just plain wrong.

RE: What years
Why did they stop putting them in the stangs?
They did use them as late as 2001, I have a 2001 Explorer with the 302 in it. Im not sure but i thik that 2001 was the last model year with 302's in them for the explorer.

RE: What years
The mod motor was going to be the replacement for the conventional SBF. Remember, it first showed up in 1962 as 221CID
I think one of the real reasons was due to emissions standards in passenger cars and they could make something like the mod (4.6) run cleaner than a 5.0.
Remember also that trucks and SUV's have differant standards and so it could go for a few more years there.......
BTW, all the american car builders have done redesign on all the V-8's in the past 10-15 years, The SBC don't even resemble a Chevy anymore and Mopar has done the deal twice. First with the 'Magnam' type engine and now with the 'Hemi' thats not a true hemi at all...
