Default Motormount replacement difficulty?

Well ive noticed my fan begin to sag in the front, indicating that my motormounts are pretty much done. how difficult are these to replace? what would i need for an at home replacement besides tools?

motor mounts are fairly easy to replace, get the polyurethane mounts for sure. some guys will lift the engine with a floor jack under the pan...I just don't like that idea, just asking for trouble if you ask me. a hoist is definately a good idea. you'll probably have to take your headers off the heads, so plan on replacing header gaskets as well. other than that I don't remember needing any special tools, just some time, effort and patience. hope this helps, good luck!

I did mine with jackstands, and swearing.

they are a pain, you have to take off the 2 bolts that hold them to the k-member, then jack up the motor till you have some room to take them out.
there are 2 bolts on each side that hold it to the block.
the drivers side gave me a little trouble, but it takes time to snake it out.

like said above, all will work.

you do need to remove all the fan and shroud stuff though first.
if you put a piece of 2x4 under the pan, it will disperse the weight and be ok

I was gonna do mine, but got scared and took it to a mechanic. I could barely even see the bolts, let alone get a wrench on them. It's supposedly not too hard though. I just didn't want to get my purse dirty.

+1 lots of swearing here too, course I swear quite a bit anyway.....

Like someone said, a 2x4 and a jack should work pretty well. obviously a hoist would be better, but the other way will work if one's not available.

I just did mine, I was installing new headers, and once I had the old ones removed I could see looked down and saw that they were shot. It was sort of a pain, I did use a engine hoist and that helped. The large bolts were TIGHT! that took a little swearing!

A breaker bar and a long extension will make breaking the bolts lose that are connected to the block easier. Also you don't really need to remove the fan and shroud, just loosing in the shroud so it will slide up will work enough. You don't really need to jack the motor up that high.

When I was fighting with my long tubes to get them in I had to loosen teh motor. We had a jack on the front and rear of the oilpan. We were able to jack it up about 3-4 inches. We still had the bolts on for safty so it would probably went higher. We had the transmission out also (did a rebuild on it).
