Car getting too hot

Car getting too hot
Hey guys.
In the last few days my car has started to act up. If I start the car after it is already warm, the temp gauge goes all the way up almost the red then stays there untill I can get some air flow through the rad to cool it back down. Then it stays normal all day untill I shut it off and restart it again.
I thought it was the thermostat sticking when the car was off but I replaced that and it didn't help.
Any ideas?

Make sure tstat is installed correctly. Also you might want to take the tstat out and see if that makes any difference. I can't imagine the water pump not pumping water, but just a thought. If none of these are problems I would suspect clogged radiator.

Is your fan working properly? Is it an electric fan? I had similar problems with my 94 GT. I changed the water pump, put in 185 degree stat and replaced the radiator with OEM recommended radiator and it still ran on the warm side. There is a link here where you can add switch to bypass the high speed fan with a ground and switch which has been awesome. Now for me when I get in stop and go or in the staging lanes my temp doesn't go up past "R" in normal. Hope this helps.

Here is a thread for the fan bypass. Good luck.

If your losing water and can't see it dripping somewhere, you could have a blown head gasket. Hope I am wrong, but this can cause overheating.
