ORIGINAL: 5.0stanger

The # marks on you balancer are BTDC, 0 would be TDC. Stock is 10* BTDC with a light, set it to 14* BTDC with a light. Using a light is the only way to set a degree of timming accuratly on you mustangs.
^^ I agree. And before you blow something up, counter-clockwise advances, clockwise retards it. I would get a Haynes or Chilton's, it will help you out.

The base timing is Before TDC. You want combustion before the piston reaches the top--that's what pushes the piston down and creates your power. After TDC would not do much for you.

Well, the EGR only recirculates the burned (inhert) gases. It actually helps prevent detonation, believe it or not. If removed, it may give a liklier (sp?) chance of detonation/preignition.

Also, you won't need to go over 30 weight oil.... even if it was like 110 degrees out. It will only result in much harder starts and longer warmups...and more resistance on the engine.... You might be right with staiyng awya from synthetics though. They're really only good if you already have decent sealing on an engine. Mabe switch over if you get bored over and get new rings; it will work wonders then.

20 is the weight 50 is the protection...

20w50 will be fine and wont cause any problems.. I have used it on many engine in the past.. never had any problems..
