Default Help!!! Ignition problems Grrrr.

Ok I hope there is some out there that can put me in the right direction. I have a 1985 Mustang GT (Carburated), and I having a hell of a time with the ignition system right now, I have no spark getting to the plugs. It all started when I took out the Stock Duraspark III system and installed a MSD ready to run Dist., (module built in) all I had to do was change the gear to a steal one and drop it in and hook up three wires, one ground to the frame or - battery terminal (tried both) and the other 2 wires plug into my + &- MSD Blaster 3 coil I have, easy enough right. Well when I went to start up...nothing! I pulled the coil plug off the cap and had someone crank over the engine as I held the coil wire away from the engine block, coil distributor cap plug+in area, frame...no spark. So I tried the other hook up option, I had a unused MSD 6A box and hook it all up, got power to the coil for sure because I could hear the spark go to the coil, dont no if that is normal or not but when I turn the key on I could hear and see the 6A box send a current to the coil, when I say see I mean there was a good spark from the + & - terminal coming from the Coil and directing to the Coil Wire plug-in area. Still no spark to the plugs, so I called MSD and they told me to do what I already done to check for a spark they said I would probly have to get another Dist. or send that one back. Pissed I am, I got a broken product!!??. So I hook up the all the stock Ignition system back using the Blaster 3 coil like before... guess what? nothing again!! no spark to the plugs, but when the engine is cranking and I hold the coil wire a little bit away from the cap there is a bunch of little sparks trying to reach the cap but it is not strong enough to reach the plugs I don't understand how it was fine before and now nothing. I check everything TDC, Dist. right before spark plug wire 1 everything plugged up to the stock wires like before all this happen. I even tried to hook up the 6A box to the Blaster coil and the stock Dist. nothing at all. I got a MSD wire manament book with excellent diagrams so I know I not getting the hook up wrong. Can anyone Help!!

I have some MSD diagrams on my site.

when you droped the new dizzy in where was the #1 piston? Where does the rotor point at #1 TDC?

Ive had bad luck with MSD 6A series, my buddies '85 with a 6AL and blaster coil, the coil literally blew up (was louder than a shotgun) messed up the module with it, my friend, who is an electrical engineer, took apart the module rebuilt it and it still didnt work right, on one of our other buddies stangs ('89) had issues with MSD stuff as well. I dont have any problems with the motorsport one I have (its made by MSD), because its a direct plug in and was approved by Ford.
At any rate, are you getting enough power to the module? And if you see ANY sparks on the coil somethings wrong (as in the housing is cracked), you shouldnt see any sparks anywhere. Im thinkin the coil is bad. Also, if Im not mistaken, there is a ballast resistor inline to one of the + leads on the module make sure that its not blown or damaged, its alot further back in the wiring though. Hope this helps.

When I droped in the new dizzy it was a little wrong with TDC, but I corrected it and then the rotor was aligned with plug number 1, right now I am just trying to figure out why not even the stock dizzy and module wont work, maybe the blaster 3 coil did mess up?? I put a voltmeter on the + side of the coil with the key on and it was only showing 3.75 on the meter. Normal?

I don't know about the coil, I run a old mallory unit. When you crank, does it crank real slow one weird like the timing is out of whack?

When I crank its pretty fast but I know that there is no spark getting to the Plugs I checked but when I pulled the coil wire off the center of the cap and crank there is a bunch of tiny sparks trying to reach the cap but it is not dence at all. Some guy at the auto store I go to said he thinks it is my coil... I check the MSD coil with a voltmeter and it was reading 3.4 and and I had a Accel coil and it check at 5.8, but still no spark to the plugs. Both coils are pretty old.

Yessss!!!, Figured it out my MSD coil was bad and the magnetic pickup in the stock dizzy went with it, don't figure?? Put a Accel coil I had on there wich by the way seems to put out better power than MSD and droped in my new MSD Dizzy and I am on the road now awsome. Thanks for all of you guys sugestions.
