When you're trying to buy someones god damned car and they claim it's got 3:73 gearing or what have you and that it's got POSI! I want to slap them. But I explain to them what Ford Trak-Lok is then drill them about the damned gears. Is there a way to tell? The car i'm bout to get is a 5 speed '91 coupe. Let's use 1st gear for Ex. At 25 mph what RPM should you be at with those gears?

first dont tell someone that ur trying to buy a car from that they are wrong. because u your self do not know what gears are in the car, untill u chalk it or drive it your not going to know. all you would have done is made yourself look stupid and like a *****. just my 2 cents on car buying.

Posi/trac lok, same freaking thing just different terminology. As far as figuring the gears, jack it up, mark the tire, rotate the tire 1 revolution and count how many times the driveshaft rotates. 3 times=3.08 gears, 3.5 times=3.55 gears and so on. Understand?

Rotate DS once and count how many times the tires spins, that's the way that I'd do it.
