Default disopointed with torque converter!

ok im a lil disapointed. i just got my new converter put in my 89 i had it custom built from pro torque and i wanted a 3,000 but they said that would be too much for a sum what stock car so they talked me into a 2,400-2,600 stall. i paid like 425 for it plus another 400 for the install. i dont realy notice a difference that much like i thought i would really feel a big differnce. i realy dont like having another one built plus another install. what should i do? should i just get a new one?

get some gears if you don't have any, From what I have heard, gears and tourqe converters go hand in hand.

so many people get < 3000 because they fear it's too much yet everyone with a 3000 is happy and everyone who went less isnt

3000 is fine on a street car

i wouldnt even try launching at 3000 without a shift kit.. your tranny is gunna go kaboom!

OMFG, $400 for install!!!!!!!!!!!
I need to open an installation center.
Better learn to do some work your self........
You could have bought all the tools that you would have used for $400 and had beer $$$$ left-over.......
Some fast orange for cleaning up too.........

I wouldn't have let them talk you into a lower stall speed. Call them up and tell them that you are unhappy with the set up that you've got and see what they say. Also, start working on your own stuff.

time and time again i tell people 2800rpm or higher or dont bother doing a converter........

with a mostly stock motor you probably arent even stalling THAT high because hp and torque determain the actual stall speed. it may be built for 2400 but it may be stalling at 2000-2200 because of lack of hp. get gears and hopefully you can cut a deal with the company that talked you down to such a low stall

TQ is the determining factor of true stall speed, it is also worth mentoning that holding the brakes and seeing how high the tach reads before the tires spin is NOT true stall speed. If you find a way to make more torque, it will stall higher. Personally with an AOD trans and a lock up converter, there is no reason to go less than 3-3500 on a stall. I have a 4000 in my SS and it is daily driver tame, in fact I regularly drive the car over 100 miles at a time. (I don't daily drive the car simply because I have another car and black is real pain to keep clean)
