If you want to go all out and drop tons of weight here is what I would do.... depending on if its a street car or not.

Fiberglass Fenders
Fiberglass Hood
Fiberglass Hatch
Lexan Windows (for hatch & doors) (track car only)
Fiberglass Doors (track car only)
Aluminum Driveshaft (only a few lb's I believe)
Bumper Supports (track car only)
Aluminum Heads
Gutted Interior
Spare Tire & Jack
Take Out Rear Seats
Tubular K Member
Tubular A Arms
Tubular Control Arms (upper/lower)
Good Aftermarket Brake Setup
A/C Delete
P/S Delete
Battery Relocation Kit (not really loosing weight but transferring it)

The tubular k member, a arms and front brakes can drop 140 by itsself. Add a fiberglass hood and battery relocation kit thats prob about est 200lbs off your front end. And that is something you can REALLY feel. I can feel the difference in my car with my 90lb little brother in it like its day and night...

you make me wish i was a rich doctor already

the glass is the heavy part of the hatch, not the hatch it self.

Pretty much summed up right here, put the battery on the passenger side in the trunk.

According to the Ford Product Fact Book for 1979, curb weight for a base model two-door (2.3 w/manual) is 2530 lbs. That's with oil, water, and a full gas tank. A hatch is 82 lbs heavier at 2612. By 1985, numbers for those base four-banger cars had swelled to 2812 and 2863, respectively. That same year the 5.0-powered GT was 3129 lbs. SVO was the fatty of the bunch at 3250

Right now I have a fiberglass hood (It's Light), I'm looking into buying a fiberglass hatch, and you can take out all the underlay under the carpet and put lighter underlay in there that's my next project...lol
