Default Mustang vs. WRX

Well i'm not positive but I think the 7.5 rear end that I still have in from the 4 cyl is 3.73 . Does anyone know what the stock ratio from a 1991 4cyl was? i'm putting the 8.8 in in a few weeks once I've decided on what ratio I want. I know I want 4.10's or 3.73's but i need to take into consideration that my g-friend is going to be moving to college 115 miles away and I'll be visiting a few times a month.

I'm with Blown. I'm not sure what your setup is gonna run, but the stock WRX will run a 9.40 in the 1/8 mile easily. I raced one at the track in my modded 2001 GT, and if I hadn't have gotten him off the light, he would have crossed before I did. My modded GT ran a 9.52 and his WRX ran a 9.47. Those are VERY quick cars. Good luck!

The thing with AWD is that you've got to know how to drive them. Two clutches on a WRX? No offence man but jeez. Unless you put 100k miles on the car I'd say that it's driver error. I've got 52k miles on my RS, which I tend to flog often, and my clutch is still holding up fine.
And even with 4.10's I'm going to say that an AWD car will rip you off the line if they know how to launch. In a 2wd car you've got to worry about wheel spin, but in AWD you can rev to 4000-5000rpm and quickly slip the clutch. Sure, it's harder on the equipment, but you can't beat the way it leaps off the line.

I had spoken with a few other of the first year WRX owners who had the same problems with the clutches. The dealer (a young kid, 19 or 20) that sold me the car also told me that he had heard of clutch problems in the WRX. I figured that I wouldnt have any problems, but I did. I have a 1998 Ford ranger pickup wiht 75,000 miles on it, I race it, and drive it harder than I ever drove that WRX and have never had any problems. I must have just gotten a melon. But hell this is a mustang forum and I still say the mustang rocks!!!! WERD?

Oh, were you talking about that mysterious clutch shudder? It's a Subaru thing, not exclusive to the WRX. Sometimes on cold mornings my car will do it for a block or two, but slipping the clutch to warm it up makes it stop. Not exactly something I consider as a problem. The tranny though, that's another story. They're fine for moderate abuse with a mostly stock car, or mild abuse with a modified car, but heavy abuse WILL break them, 165hp RS, 227hp WRX or whatever you've got. That's why the light clutch, which leads to the shudder. Better to have a light clutch that'll stand up to most aggressive driving than a tranny that snaps all the time.
They've supposedly taken care of the clutch shudder, and I heard they did so by putting a heavier flywheel in?? I'll take my shudder thanks.

I haven't really driven my Mustang enough to make a decision about it rocking or not. So far everything is good though.

I wish i was driving my Mustang damnit ! I still can't get this transmission thing figured out. First everything is cool , then the parts are wrong , then I buy the right ones , then someone tells me those are wrong. Everything else is ready , the only thing left is putting in the shifter and kickdown linkage. I am about to lose my mind. My car is just setting there waiting to get on the road , this tranny is pissing me off.
