Default difference between 5.0 and 5.0 HO

Got a sweet deal on an 88 cougar with a fi 5.0 in it. What is the difference from it and the mustang 5.0 HO? How hard would it be to swap the fuel injection into my brothers 89 2.3 coupe? Should I use a HO intake? Is the wireing different? I have heard of useing a truck intake with a stock intake to make a few more ponies. Would the cougar engine have a roller cam? If so, how big compared to stock HO cam? Thanks for the replies and sorry for the long post.

Default RE: difference between 5.0 and 5.0 HO

The differance between the 5.0 and the 50 HO is that the HO motor has rollerized internals and cam while the other does not. Some parts will say for use w/ either a 302 or 302HO motor. SO u cant use a roller cam in a non roller block. Using the lower truck intake with the stock upper does offer more flow but its the top piece of teh intake that is also resrictive, thats why people that do this often have thier stock uppers ported.

HO motors also have a different firing order, they share the 351w firing order

Can a person install a HO roller cam in a non roller cam 5.0 block? If I bought a HO intake, will it work with my wireing harness?

HO = Roller, so if its not HO then anything roller (besides roller rockers) cant be used internaly. The intake however should work because it is the engines internals but im not sure about the wiring harness.. I would assume so because the displacement and block size are the same...

theres the manifold, firing order, heads, roller cam and a few different things

i think it makes like 160 horse [:'(]

it doesnt breath well at all with the E6 heads opposed to the E7 heads

the engine is equivalent to the old 305's in chevys i believe

I don't know much about fords like I used to. I have been into chevys the last 7 years. I know small block chevys you can install a roller cam with a little modifying and some parts in a non roller block. As for heads, I have a set of K-code 289 heads in the shop I was thinking of putting on the engine, they have already been reworked and bigger valves put in them, I have the whole 289, but the block has a five bolt bell houseing bolt pattern. I have another 289 block, but is has gotten some rust on it real good.
Thanks for the info guys.

With a conversion kit, you can put a 5.0 roller cam into any windsor block, 289, 302, or 351

go to a junk yard and ask them for the Valley spider and lifter keys for a 302 roller block. get some new lifters. the block will need to be drilled to accomidate the valley spider two holes, you can drill and tap them your self if you know how if not any machine chop can.
