Default why did you decide to go with a 5.0?

im going to be posting a similar thread in the 4.6 so i hope you guys don't get mad, but i want to get a stang i just can't decide which, i love the fox 5.0 and the newer especially the 99+ 4.6 and the 05+.
just curuios why did you decide to pick a 5.0 (most of you guys a fox body) to mod it out over the new stangs like the 99+ ?
the 4.6s are faster out of the box and im sure they can be made a lot faster also, not positive but i think, and they do ride a lot nicer, so im just wondering what made you guys decide to go with the fox and if you did it all again would you go the same route?

thanks

foxes are cheap to start with... that and i like the fox alot better than the 94-99 model.

i would deffinately go fox again without a doubt..
if money was allowing i would own a cobra though 03-04 OHYA

i bought mine because i like the look of the foxes..... they may not be as fast as the new edge body style but they are 4-5 times cheaper usually and for that extra money you can have a fox that will rape any factory mustang ever made...

Actually the 4.6's arent that fast.......

I have owned 2 Fox Body Mustangs.....one hatch and one vert.

The hatch was beautiful, and stock just a full exhaust system.

My Vert is a full track car, that I daily drive........

The 5.0 aftermarket is killer. There is so much stuff out there that it is redicious. Plus the Fox bodys are cool in my opinion. Cheap and Easy to make fast....and yada yada.

Try 3500-5000 for a 5.0 with low miles and in GOOD shape. 6,000 will get you a helluva 5.0.

Default RE: why did you decide to go with a 5.0?

My reason is when I was buying my first car the sn95 body style wasnt out yet. But heres why, the stang wasnt my first choice. The first car I looked at was a '75 trans am 455 (7.4L?), 4 spd. It was fast but lost control REALLY easily. The second car I looked at was a '87 TA, same problem, if the car fishtailes the front end goes right along with it. REALLY difficult to regain control. Then I test drove a '79 mustang ghia (5.0L, 4spd). It was quick, and had superb handling as compared to the GM's. So I bought it. And contrary to your belief, the 5.0L is A LOT easier and cheaper to make fast. My '85 is A LOT faster than MOST cobras with bolt ons. Obviously not the S/Ced ones but almost all of the N/A cars. Last one I raced, it was a joke, from a dead stop I immediatly got about 5 cars on the cobra, let off the gas for the guy to catch up, hit second pulled another 5 or so cars, let off the gas for him to catch up, etc. The guy was pretty pissed , he was punchin his steerin wheel .
Another reason I wouldnt go witha 4.6 is they have like NO torque, my friend bought a brand new 97GT 5-spd in 1997, when we were out messin around, the car wouldnt even spin the tires. We tried all sorts of different ways to do it, 3k side step the clutch, 6k side step clutch nada. It would just plant and go. The 5.0L foxes, even with a stock 2.73 gear would lite the tires as long as youd want it to. So which is better?

I went with the fox b/c it was the hottest thing on the road when I was 16. I just had to have one. Parents would not let me have one then, so now that I'm a big boy I'm reliving my teenage years. Yes, I would definately go the same route all over again. Great aftermarket, easy to work on, and when you tell someone "I've got a five point oh", they know that you know your **** when it comes to cars.

The PI 4.6's make the same amount of torque as we do, just at a higher rpm. The 96-98 4.6 stangs are just kinda pigs, heavy and lacking power. Our pushrod motors are WAY WAY WAY cheaper to mod and a fox body is a LOT cheaper than a sn-95. And just think about this, how many sn-95 4.6s do you see running around? They're everywhere.

aftermarket is unlimited.i was 16 when the fox got popular.

i had a 98 and a 00..outside of the brake issue(they suck).it's just a well rounded car for the price.
