Default NO OIL

Ok, my engine started sputtering and surging....as soon as it happened I drove it to my house...then my mechanics house...maybe 6 miles at the most. I don't know how it happened...I just had NO OIL when we checked...I'm going to go get all of the oil stuff tomorrow and hope nothing has locked up...what do you think?

Should anything seriously be damaged?

You're probably OK. I was a pit monkey at express oil change about 12 years ago and you wouldn't believe what people drove in with no oil in the pan. Countless time these old ladies would come in complaining of engine noise, we pulled the plug and nothing but GLOP would come out, maybe 3/4 quart of sludge. This was in early eighties GM junk engines. We would leave the plug out, shoot 2 quarts thru it, plug it , slap a filter on it and fill. Run 2 minutes, drain, fill , another filter and they would drive out like new. No engine noise.
If those 305 Olds engines would do it you're good with the 5.0.
Watch that oil pressure though. Could be a bad oil pump.

Ouch! I'd like to see if those old ladies' cars are still running today. I really hope that your car is ok, man. I will say that you may have given your crank bearings hell though. Only time will tell. How quickly did your oil level drop? I mean, when was the last time you checked it? If you check it at every fuel stop (like the owners manual probably says to), and you still burned it all up, you may have other issues to worry about. For reference, I feel comfortable checking mine about once a week...with the type of driving that I do. It never needs any oil in a week, but it's good to check anyway. Then, a couple years ago, I had a motorcycle of which I had to check the oil level every other day. Either way, it's good to figure out how much oil your car uses. Good luck man.

Of course they're not running today, it's an Olds 305 right? haha.
All joking aside, they probably are still running. Theres something to be said for a GM engine with loose production tolerances.
I used to run with a guy with an old 305 cutlass. We dogged that car and could'nt kill it. Didn't make any power but wouldn't die either.

Well I do know you can get 7 miles without ANY engine oil going into the pump. I know that from experience. I only spun 2 rod bearings & my oil pump shaft looked like a twizler
