Plug Gapping
I know nothing about spark plug gapping , but I need to find out what the plug gap is for a 1988 5.0 . I don't know if I need to give more info than that but here is the whole engine combo just in case.

Stock heads , professional products Power Plus Manifold , Holley 600cfm carb , MSD Pro Billet Distributer , Heddman long tubes

I dont know if any of that matters but I wrote it just in the case that engine modifications effectedwhat the spark plug gap should be.

I dunno.
But I experimented with increasing the gap on my RS. No difference in power as far as I could tell. I went from the stock 44 to 60 and couldn't tell anything. Larger gap is supposed to require more voltage to spark, but creates a larger spark that burns better. I think it may only work well with a really good coil/ignition.

I was just affraid that if you did many modifications you had to gap the plugs different. I just have to figure out what I should gap my plugs at so we can start putting the plugs and wires back in the car today.

Plug Gapping
Cool thanks. I went to the auto store and bought some plug and came home and they didn't fit??? So I pulled on of the old plugs and took it with me , and went back. the guy was like what the h*** did this come out of , this is for an Escort?I was lik what are you talking about . Well it turns out that Cougars and esdorts used these longer plugs and I had acidentally told him i wanted plugs for an 88 5.0 motor and not mentioned it was a Cougar and not a mustang motor. I had no idea there was a difference but the threads on the Mustang plug are like 1/2 inch shorter. but anyways the plugs i bought last night say they dont need to be gapped? bosch platinum II 's

The 2 and 4 point plugs are theoretically harder to gap since it's harder to get a gauge in there. And they're supposedly gapped from the factory.
Unless there's a good reason, I stick with copper plugs.
