Default Stupid headers

Well I put the C4 on my car and now my left side header wont go back on. I took the starter off but it still wont clear the bulge on the bellhousing. I think IfI unbolt the engine mount on the left side and jack it up an inch or 2 I can get it to go on. But I dont know if I can bolt the dang starter back on even if I do get the header on. The headers were fine when I had the AOD on and the bell housing looks almost exactly the same , so why wont it fit. Granted , we did have the headers and tranny already on when we dropped the engine in the car. I guess the only thing to do is either drop the tranny or try to jack the engine up on the left side. Or worst case scenario I'll have to get other headers. Any advice?

Not sure, but sounds like you will need new headers for your application. For your sake I hope not.

Well I'm pretty sure I'll need new ones. This is a Pan filled larger bell C4. The bell lookis the same as the AOD but apparently it isn't. maybe the starter is positioned alittle different or something. I guess I will try to sell my headers cheap and get new ones. I just dont know which to get now because I want long tubes

How much room do you need? Do you think it's possible to shave off a piece of that bell? is it the lip part that can be shaved off? will it be enough? is it just a matter of positioning everything at the same time and then installing or is that bell so darn big that the headers just wont fit, can't be bent and no shaving will take care of it.....then you're in for some diff. headers........ hey, great excuse!

Well Im pretty sure I can't shave the bell. I might be able to get alittle off of it but not much. I wonder if I can heat the headers with a torch and bend the down alittle bit. I'de screw them up though hehehe . I think that maybe I couldget it to fit if I pulled the tranny off then put it on . They fit before I switched from the AOD and I swear the bell is the same size unless i have vision problems. They are both 167 tooth flywheels and the starter looks like it is in the exact same place. But when we first put the engine and tranny in ,we already had the headers and starter bolted on. So I think I'll just break down and drop the tranny again as much as I dread having to do it. I bet it still wont fit and I'll be pissed for doing all that work

well, if you do all that and it works then you'll be happy, but if you do all that and it doesn't then you'll be happy in knowing that you bought the new headers for a correct reason and not for lack of trying.....so either way....you should be happy....

Guess what , after going crazy unbolting the engine mount , jacking it up and slamming the header around. It finally went on. Fits fine now but you should have seen what i went through getting the bolts back in the mount. i was pissed beyond explanation hahaha. But it's on now and everything fits. Your right , I'm happy now

Thanks for letting me vent about my header everyone , I'm sure I'll be in here alot the next few days venting because we are leaving for the beach in 5 days and we have vowed to finich this car before we leave. i'm bound to have more problems

Default Stupid headers

Thanks dude , I'm getting excited about this thing now that I'm not worried about getting new headers. I finished putting the new plugs in and putting my wire looms and wires ine. They look sweet. I have tall chrome Ford motorsport valve covers now ( if anyone wants a brand new set of EFI valve covers let me know. They are powder coated black with aluminum ridges on top and say" MUSTANG " and in small letters "Powered by ford" . I gotta get some money back out of them to use on the car) Anywyas I got chrome valve covers that say Ford motorsports and I have these wire looms that have blue clips on the end that say ford motorsports in white and then there are also 2 clips on each side and they match the loom ( Blue with ford motorsports wrote on them) All the engin wiring has blue tubing on it. Polished intake , polished carb , 14" chrome air cleaner , polished aluminum Pro billet distributer , and on the inside of the fender I have my aluminum Mallory fuel pressure regulator mounted there with a chrome liquid filled holley fuel pressure gauge , then after that like 6" or so before the carb i have a clear inline fuel filter with chrome ends. Chrome wheels , Chrome wheel arch trim , Chrome sticker that goes in 3rd brake light (at night says MUSTANG and has horses on the sides facing the word) and then i got Chrome stickers to go in the little MUSTANG indention in the rear bumper. First thing I'm doing is saving up and getting it painted the darkest glossy black i can and getting the windows tinted. It will look so evil with my big Cobra R ram air hood all black like that. it's going to be so sweet. it has a spoiler from a newer stang , not sure what year but it looks great . i think its from a 94-97 or whenever they went to the newest body style. I'm so excited. i've been saving every last cent for the last few years to get a 89-93 Notchback and build it up and I'm almost done. We didn't buy crappy stuff either , I spent all my hard eearned cash and bought the best stuff I could get that would work on my engine. All thats left is getting it paintd and getting new heads and a bigger cam. I wish i had a digital camera I'de post some pics. i've used like literally 4 roles of film taking pics of the car before and during every little piece being put on. and pics of all the stuff I buy . Anyways sorry for talking so much i am just happy we are about to finish this thing after all thats gone wrong the last month we've been working on it. If I can just find a stinking filler tube and the little fitting for a pan filed C4 tranny we'd have this thing whipped ,but Lokar wants like $75 for theirs
