ignition problems
I was driving my 5.0 down the street today. I get to the corner of my street and stop at the stop sign to make a turn. I go to make the turn and I notice the power steering stopped working. I check my tach and its at 0. The car shut off. I tired to start it again and no go. It just turns over and nothing happens. All the power works fine. The engine just wont start. So I started testing where im getting power to. Turns out im getting 12V into the coil but nothing out. Does this mean that for sure the coil is no good or could it be the ignition module. Also, whats the quickest way to tell if you have duraspark ignition or TFI-IV. I think I have TFI-IV because I have the little module on the distibutor and I can't seem to find the little control box module that the hanes manual talks about. What do you guys think?

Sounds like either the coil or control unit went south. My truck left me on the side of the freeway once because the stupid $30 ECM went kaput. Same as you, coil had power but no spark.

If the ignition control module goes it most definately will not start. The same thing happend to me,I replaced it and was instantly back in business. You will need a thin wall 7/32 socket to remove, and will probably have to time the car(most likely will have to twist the distributor) hope this helps. <edited><editID>Sean</editID><editDate>37812.4534143519</editDate></edited>

make it easy on yourself and just get both so you dont have to worry about either one of them again in the future...if you get a new control unit and then the coil goes you are gonna be one pissed off guy. just get an upgrade msd coil its only like 30 or 40 bucks...and may as well get the ignition while your at it...
