Clutch Questions
Hey guys I have a few questions for you. I am having trouble with my clutch. When you normally let a clutch out you have around 2 inches of play where the clutch is engageing, well my clutch has about a 1/4 that. My clutch doesnt engage till really late and i only have about 1/2 an inch of play. Do any of you know of a fix for this? I was thinking of a new clutch and I was curious if a clutch for my stock tranny would fit an upgraded T-56 transmission? Well thanks for the help.

Not sure exactly what the setup is like on these things (haven't messed with them yet) but it sounds like they're cable operated clutches, so they probably need to be adjusted after a while. If it's hydrolic then it might need to be bled.

go from least expensive route first.....

lift the clutch pedal and see if it adjusts......NO? then see if they need bleeding.... NO? check if it's cable if it is, try picking it up.... NO? then check the cable for breakage.... NO? then you might need to start checking the clutch, plate, etc.... take it from there

Don't know about what will work with the T-56. But your problem now is probably in the quadrant. They are these platic ratchet looking things. You can do a couple of things besides pulling up on the pedal. First, climb under the car and slide to the trans, there is a linkage sticking out of the bell housing where the cable goes. Push that forward (toward engine bay) as hard as you can and have someone pull up on the clutch pedal from inside the car. Don't stop pushing until they let the pedal go. Try it out. The other thing you can do is climb in the car with a hammer. Hold the hammer by the head. Place the handle at the hook of the quadrant or the flat spot on the bottom and push up. As you're doing that, you need to pull up on the clutch pedal. The odds are that you need to replace the quadrant, it's cheap enough. You can try this and let us know what happens.

ok I'll do that. Thanks for the suggestion. And if you dont know about what clutch will work with the T-56 how about a T-5? Any way thanks for the help. I'm needing it cause I have never heard of this problem before.

I use a centerforce dual friction clutch in mine. ACT makes a good clutch too. I would just look in a summit catalog. They would have a variety of clutches. Let me know how that quadrant thing works. You might have a hard time finding it. Here's an easy way, put your hand on the right side of the throttle pedal, start sliding up and feel around for a plastic peice with ratcheting teeth on it. That is the quadrant. The hook is just below the teeth. That is where you want to put the hammer.
