personally me, i wouldnt run anything less then 89 with or without bumped timing, but it would be better if you did 89 91 or 93 with bumped timing.

I run 93 all the time. Timing is set around 12* on the bottle and around 16*-17* off the bottle. Bumping from 14* to 17* shaved a 1/4 second from my 1/8th mile time.

With bumped timing its always better to run higher octane. The higher the octane the more its resistant to detonation (spark knock). When you bump the timing, the further you advance it the longer the gas needs to burn, higher octane takes longer to burn than lower octane. so in essence if run a low octane gas with bumped timing itll burn too quickly and ignite before it should, causing detonation.

PS: I run 93 all the time, 14* timing

so in long run even though high octane is more it probably lasts just as long for what you pay right?

I ran 87 with 13-14 degrees but I started running 89 after that just to be on the safe side. Just bump it until it starts to ping.. when it does back it down a degree.

^ how bout WOT? you do know that at WOT the computer will add up to 16* of timing to adjust for a/f ratio right? that seems pretty high though for '87, but each car has its own taste of the petro...
