Also, just doing searches for parts will sometimes help you understand what they do as you figure out the differences between the brands, etc....

so each on those springs on the head are the lifters for each cylinder which open the intakes right? you put a valve cover on those to protect them from getting kit and knocked around and screwed up a cycle. and inside the actual engine below the heads in where each cylinder is?

the spring is a valve springs, a cam lifts the lifter with a pushrod in it, which pushes up the rocker, then pushes down on the valve (opens), the spring holds up (closed) the valve.
Yes, the cylinders are below the heads.

and a head gasket just seals the area between the engine and the heads so its air tight? if so why are they so expensive to replace? because you have to take alot of the engine apart?

Yes, head gasket is between the head and the block. There is alot of pressure inside of those cylinders, and they heads are torqued down very tight, therefore a gasket makes a seal so no pressure is let out. If you blow a head gasket, then you lose compression most of the time, or i should say, some compression, therefore you lose power.

If a shop does it, it will be expensive because its a pretty long job, prolly about 8 hours totall. Head gaskets arent too expensive themselves, around 60 $ on average.
