I dont wanna sound like an ***, but you are checking and filling your oil level on level ground right? Don't mean to offend but there are people out there that you just cant assume the basics with.

So some are running 4.5 and some 5 even? I just drained mine down to the dipstick full mark. Oh well.

This may help. On my car, the dipstick appears to be about a quart or more off. It confused me at first, until I figured it out. So what I did was, after an oil change, I drove the car and parked it on level ground (in the garage). Then I came back a couple hours later and read the dipstick. At the point at which the oil read on the dipstick, I took a knife and carved a line across the stick, representing full. Now every time I change my oil (with 5 quarts, which I know is correct), the oil level comes to that point. Assuming that you pulled both drain plugs, and changed the filter, I suggest that you do the same thing.

ORIGINAL: 88BlueGT

no matter what your dipstick says?
I always use 5 quarts, no matter what the dipstick says, as five quarts is the correct amount according to the manufacturer. Originally, before I found out that some Mustang dipsticks were off, I just assumed that some knucklehead had bunged in the wrong dipstick. It really doesn't matter so long as you put the correct amount of oil in, and then mark the stick so you remember the full mark.
