Default alternator problems

so i was driving searching for a job today and all of a sudden the battery light comes on and the guage pegs itself to 18 volts so i pull over and the plug going to the alternator is very hot(read nearly on fire) im so pissed right now on top of not having a job at the present I got to replace the plug going to the alt! hopefully this is all ill need? i know the 2g's are bad about the plugs i guess i need to have a problem since its been since last year when i had a misfire around this same time i might add! who all has had this problem? and did the parts store carry the plug? or am i going to have to order it from 50resto?

sounds like you got a bad ground or some cut wires

no cut wires the 3gs like on the 94 and up dont have this problem most of the time replacement alt come with a new plug but mine didnt so i guess i gotta search for one it was intermitten when i went home yesterday so i hope just the plug will do it cause the alts new and so is the battery if it doesnt i gonna bum the money for a 3g from my dad or put it on my credit card[:'(]

I got tired of messing with 2g's and 3g's . I went out and installed a GM 1 wire havent had a problem since them

the regulator went bad and fried the alt, you shut it down in time before it burned up, but i would go ahead and replace the whole thing.

eyah the alts probably bad i got the plug from napa today for like 6$ so im gonna pull it tommrow
