Default Uncorking the Cats

I am sure this question has been asked many times but here go's.

I have a 88 Mustang GT. I would like to remove the Smog/Air Pump, O2 Sensors and the Cats. Will this screw up the performance of the car???

After removed I will use Headers Off Road H Pipe along with a pair of Flowmasters with turn downs.

Thanks for your help.

I do not have emissions testing on this car due to a different county in Illinois. Should I leave them???

without o2 sensors your ecu cannot adapt to changing air conditions through adjusting your a/f ratio... so you will not only have a check engine light, but youll be going rich and lean all the time, and stall probably once every 2-3 min

Cherrypony93
The computer uses the O2's to fine tune the AFR in the idle and cruising conditions. Without the O2's the ecu will default to the 'table' setting which are used for WOT and cold start.

There is no good reason to ditch the O2's.
Removing the O2's can cause endless drivability and durability issues.

Replace the stock cats with 2 aftermarket cats. I have been really happy with the Magnaflow I recently installed on my 2.3L.

Some cats are designed for use with a smog pump. If you ditch the smog pump, be sure to get the appropriate cats.

Keep the o2's in for reasons stated above. You can get rid of the smog pump & converters if you don't have any emissions, smog pump will free up alittle power and the converters will do the same and allow the cars exhaust to flow much freely. You can get the smog pump delete kit from Summt for like 65 bucks or you can pull your belt off measure it without the pump and just use nothing. When I did it on my car I got rid of the Belt Tensioner, so all I had were the water pump, crank, ps, and alt on the belt and from what I remember the belt was 63 inches long.
