Default 289 Heads?

I've heard of some people slapping these on 302s...I know the blocks are the same. Would these be an improvement over GT-40s? I have a blown head gasket, and I can get a really good deal on a set of 289 heads, I think the guy said Chevy valves and springs. I haven't gotten a price yet, but he said he'd cut me a good deal for them. Any input from those more knowledgeable?
