My search for GT40 heads...JACKPOT
I think I just hit the GT40 Jackpot, LoL. I was searching online and found a local junkyard that had a 1996 Ford Explorer. I talked to the guy on the phone and he will sell the entire engine for $350. That includes everything from the intake to the oil pan. So for $350 I'll end up getting some GT-40 heads as well as a nice intake and a ton of other spare parts I may need in the future. Now just gotta get them to a machine shop for P/P and I'm all set.
Okay, so maybe it's not that exciting. But I do like the idea of getting a running 302 with a 180-day warranty for $350.

yea, thats a great way to go, I got an entire 96 motor for $450 with 50,000 on it and I have used alot of parts off of it. By the way, you can cut the sh*t out of that explorer upper and lower intake to flow way better

It was a lot cheaper than i expected. And I love having an extra block, and spare parts. I know it's not the greatest, but with the moeny I saved, I can get everything to a machine shop and get everything flowing real nice. Now I just need to find some decent headers.
Hrm... maybe I should pain the intake too, just to make it look a little better. Nothing too fancy though. Just wanna clean it up. Same with the valve covers.

have them powdercoated... its cheap. You could prob have your oil pan and valve covers powdercoated for like 50-70 bucks if not cheaper. If thats too much than wirewheel them down and paint them aluminum.

Were you the one that got a do-it-yourself powdercoat kit that you bake in the oven? I remember someone talking about it, but can't remember how it turned out.
