Default interchangeable parts between 302 and 351

Can you drill journals 2,3,4 on a 302 to accomodate aftermarket four bolt caps. If so is that a machine shop thing or can you do it yourself, or would you recomend just using a girdle

I believe that there is not enough "beef" to properly accomplish this on a standard 302 block. Even if you could "squeeze it in" you would weaken the web too much.

Better question: Why would you want to? SBFs don't have a big cap walk issue and a majority of these are hyd. roller cars aren't going to spin that kind of rpm to make it an issue. The weaknesses of a stock 302 block aren't going to be corrected by adding 4 bolt mains.

A main girdle might save your rotating assembly when the block splits. But it won't raise the limits of the block before it's going to split.

A set of main cap studs will help to hold it togather......

I agree........and the main stud girdle will only keep the internals in a nice neat pile when the block cracks.

Default RE: 4 bolt mains?????Max HP??? engine life???

Okay so back to the basic question how much hp can a stock roller 302 block handle I plan on stroking it anyone had any good setups in the past or present? Not trying to go all out drag just want the max hp i can get out of it, without going to a 351. Oh and i would also like to have some engine life so if you had a 331 or 347 that lasted a while or not at all please let me know

Plan on 500-550rwhp if you want it to last. But I'd be less concerned about the power and more concerned about the rpm and detonation breaking the block.

I wanted 500 but i read somewhere that they can only handle about 400 and have any kind of life have you tried any stroker setups in the past. If so what and how much horse did you end up with. The reason I ask is because so many kits boast anywhere from 400 to 800 HP and I would guess that the people making the kit would know but then again they are selling not using(most likely)

500rwhp will be no problem for a stock block as long as you don't detonate it. The guys recommending sticking to 400hp is because that's a good rule to follow if you're a total moron. If you have a natural skill at breaking perfectly good parts, stick to 400hp. If you have any clue to what you're doing, having 500rwhp and making it last a long time is not a difficult feat.

I have don't multiple stroker motors before. The stroker motor I pulled out of my car last month and sold made over 600rwhp on 93 octane untuned. I am not a good example though. That motor was a Dart block motor. The stock shortblock I pulled to put that Dart motor in made 428rwhp 567rwtq. That is a low number for a stock block, but it was on a 9:1 stock shortblock, E7 heads and an AOD. Personally, I don't build that many strokers in stock 302 blocks because with any power adder, you can break a stock block at will with just a 302/306.

Any Scat or Probe rotating assembly I sell will out last a stock block) I am a MWD for Scat also (I need to update my sig).

Check out this video. It's a friend of mine from last weekend ago. It's a 200k stock shortblock.

http://media.putfile.com/stock-block

At 3000lb race weight, that's 602rwhp.
