Under the hood
I own a 89gt almost stock. I am wanting to buy a junk engine for my first "project" engine. I was wanting to get some opinions on the 3 in which I am chosing from.
1) 302 bored 30 over, gt40 heads, gt40 intake, forged pistons, rods, and crank. With the hopes of one day dbeing able to afford a Kenne Bell charger.
2) 351w Strokerkit, gt40 heads, intake ??,fuel injected.
3) 351w strokerkit, gt40 heads, dual 4-barrel carbs.
Now please keep in mind this will be my first project looking for something that will create alot of power while not taking a rocket scientist to help me out along the way.

RE: Under the hood
for a first time project, stick with the 302 as the other ones will make you need a new, taller cowl hood and several other things like headers, etc. that you could reuse if you keep the 302. you might want to use some heads besides the GT-40's. check out this chart on the testing the guys at MM&FF did on some street type heads on a mildy modifed 5.0 and you'll see what I mean. You can also go to the other post on heads and flows in this same section and see more info about them there. https://mustangforums.com/m_208788/tm.htm

RE: Under the hood
I concur with the others, stay with the 302.
Long term projects sometimes get put on the shelf for a long time, Iknow I'm trying to get rid of stuff from a project that I never should have started......

RE: Under the hood
You can make a lot of power with a 5.0 liter. I thought the same way when i first started out with these cars. The 302 is an excellent engine to work with.
Good luck
I will say one thing though, there is nothing like the sound of a big block with open headers at 8000 rpms going down the track in a mustang. But it's a little loud for the street,,lol.
