What do you all think of this idea? Budget drag car.
LC and I were bored in english today and started talking...we are just playing around with this. The idea is a budget non street-legal drag car.
Basically - the gist of it:
- Find a mid 80s fox, roller preferred
- Grab a 351W flat tappet from a local JY ($150), have my uncle (who is a machinist) do some machine work on the block for free and slap a summit rebuild kit on it. We'd go carbd.
- Find a Used C4, AOD or T5 (not sure which), slap a shift kit on it or rebuild it ourselves (using that video).
- Buy a summit rollcage.
- Buy all other misc. odds and ends (wheels, springs, etc...). I know the rear end would cause a problem (the 7.5" if we get an oder one), still trying to figure a way around it.
Like I said, we're just playing with the idea. I'd estimate it'd cost around $4000. Probably looking at a 12 sec car.
What do you all think?

I think it can definately be done. I kinda regret not finding a cheap 4cyl car and putting a motor/trans/rear end in it, since i am goignt o do that anyway in my GT. woulda coulda shoulda..... But go for it!

Sounds like a plan. But you can get so much out of them with out pulling the motor. I dunno' why you would want to pull the motor unless you are going to do some serious work.
