need some input from ya'll 5.0 peeps
what's up guys and gals....i got a few questions for ya. I'll try to keep this as short as possible. My dad has had lots of 5.0's in the past, and is looking at one right now to buy....the guy is claiming about 400hp, but hasn't had it dynoed or anything. Here's what the car has that's listed on autotrader.....
1992 FORD MUSTANG, 105K mi, ac, ps, cc, p/windows, New Paint, Chrome Ponys, E-brock heads & intake, Cam, 24lb inj, Alum Flywheel, 3.73 Gear, New Clutch, Exhaust, Very Clean & Fast
i don't think the guy is trying to b.s. my dad, i just think he's overshooting the hp a little bit...maybe b/c he doesnt know, and it "feels" like 400hp. I don't know what cam is in the car...i know it's aftermarket...so lets say...with the set up listed, and the cam being an E303 cam...what would be a good estimate of hp?? I'm pretty knowledgeable on Mustangs, whether it be 5.0's or 4.6's, but i was hoping maybe somone in here w/ a similar setup could shoot some numbers at me. BTW, the motor in the car has roughly 20k on it, not 105k.....
My guess is between 280- 310rwhp, assuming full exhaust....and i think i'm overshooting there.....
That's all for now, and if ya'll have any questions or anything i'll get back at ya tomorrow...i'm about to go out and party a bit Thanks [sm=icon_cheers.gif]

Right around 300 rwhp isn't a bad estimate, a bit less if anything...with full bolt-ons and exhaust. So yeah, a bit less than the guy is claiming. Ask him what kind of cam the car has, that will make a difference.

as for the wheels....they came stock on the car, as an option....only seen 4 other ones with the chrome gt wheel like mine.....i like em....a little different from the norm...

Well if the cam is a decent match to the heads and intake then fly wheel HP rating could be well over 300...and sometimes a little fudge with the numbers is just to real in peoples attention in an add. Seems he's collected a decent list of parts, and he may simply have been sucked in my enhanced claims by companies he buys parts from...so I say if the car is solid, price is relatively good....grab it.

i'd say its more like 350 at the fly wheel, 280+ at the wheels

400horsepower is hard to make without some serious head work (yes, even on aftermarket heads), and a wild cam unless youre talking forced induction.
