Default Oil?

I'm not decided on what oil I should use. I've got 150k on the car I just bought. I don't know what the previous owner used in it. It doesn't leak or burn any. I was considering Mobil 1 like I use in my ranger, but I've heard that older vehicles will leak synthetic oil. What do you guys reccommend?

with 150k on it who cares?...no flame! it's just no matter what it has 150k on it and has done well... I wouldn't waste your $$$ on mobil 1. a good 10w30 do fine at this stage..as you don't want any leaks. and with you being the new owner you'll change it every 2500-3000 miles I sure. put away the $$$ you'll save by not using synethic toward that new engine you'll want to put in it later

My 85 GT has 245,000 plus and has 0 leaks. I use Castrol GTX 20w/50.

Good luck

Using regular oil is a good plan. I'm figuring on having to refresh the motor sometimewhen it wears out. This car seems as it was taken well care of. The previous owner had all the maintenence records logged in the book, with all recieptsof everything that was ever repaired.</P>

If you care enough to pay the extra money for a synthetic oil it is well worth the extra money. Besides freeing up a couple (2 to 3) horses the synthetic oil will protect your bearings better by staying together at elevated temperature levels. Also, the synthetic has a higher sheer factor when compared to conventional oil. Meaning it will take more impact loading then coventional oil and not seperate under excessive stress(the way a car should be driven).

oh I agree I only use mobil 1 or amsoil....but with a car with that many miles and not knowing how it was treated and a new engine to be on the way it wouldn't make "cents" in this instance
