Default Car won't start, timing issue please help

I bought the car not fully assembled. I had to add the injectors, fuel line, intakes, and distributor. I get spark with the plugs out of the car and the car fires when I spray starting fluid in the motor but the car immediatly dies. The injectors are getting a pulse to fire (verified with a noid light) and I have 40psi of pressure in the lines. I got the car to start last night by rotating the distributor a little but once I let go of the distributor the car died. I could not get it to start back again no matter how much I turned the distributor so I reinstalled the distributor and move it one tooth. That did not make an improvments with the car and it still won't start even if I rotate the distributor. Does anyone have any ideas what I could be doing wrong? Maybe the distributor is bad or the pip sensor? Thanks

Pull the codes...the puter will tell you if the PIP is bad..process of elimination, oh and a timing gun are your friends right now to start.

So the dist. has been out of the car then? If so you need to read this article.

This might sound like a stupid question but does the spout need to be out when I stab the dizzy and try to get the car started for the first time? Once the car is running on its own then I can set the timing with a light and put the spout back in? I have not taken the spout out for this part because I thought that was just to advance the timing. Should I remove the spout and have someone crank the car while I turn the distributor to the right position? Thanks

To set your timing remove that spout connector. Once you got your timing put that spout back in and just to be sure id recheck the timing. If youre starting the car w/o the spout, the computer will set the timing back to stock, i think thats how it works.

Let me rephrase that. Once you got your timing to where you want it put the spout back in.

Does The Car Start To Back Fire When It Starts?
The car makes a popping sound like it is firing a little but it is not a backfire. Just to be sure I turned the distributor 180* and it was backfiring.

I'll check on the IAC. I have a spare one sitting around. It is worth a shot. Thanks
