my stangs got the shakes
I think as far as the name goes you have to go by manufactor. I know as pointless as arguing over the difference between harmonic balancer, vibration dampner, harmonic dampner, what the hell ever we all know what it does. Now lets get down to business. Check your oil pressue for any irregularities in pressure. Highly unlikely in your case but I have seen in a fresh 331 motor that wasn't properly balanced had an idle that shook you out of your seat due to the inbalance. The crank was moving so much in the main bearings that the oil pressure was reading low. Also you didn't specify if what type of transmission you were running. If its a stick a possibility could be an in balance in the pressure plate. But this would create two different types of shakes with the clutch engaged and not engaged. If you have a auto it could be a torque converter that is also gone bad. This would tend to lessen the vibrational shaking as the impeller and the turbine come closer to coupling speed. Just a possibility.
