RE: What is a "fox body"?
It it a FOX Chassis Platform, not "body".
FoMoCo used the same basic chassis platform on the Mustang, Lincoln, and Fairmont. IN other words unstead of having to go out and test different suspension system designs they saved money buy using the same design for several body style.
That's standard "Detroit" pratice. In the next few years you will be seeing U.S. Fords that share the chassis platform with the large Jaguar (Victoria) and Volvo P@ (Freestyle, 500). When it comes down to it the original Mustang shared the "Thunderbird XK" chassis. You might know that vehicle as the Aussie "XK Series" Falcon, 1960 Frontenac (Canada), and of course the 1960 Ford Falcon.
But in regards to the FOX Mustangs:
79-92 Mustang High Performance chassis parts bolt directly onto your Lincoln or Fairmont (4 and V-8 only. The cars with 6's had a different crossmember under the engine)
And yep, you CAN attach a Mustang's front sheet metal to a Farimont STATION WAGON without altering the doors or plenum section. Looks neat and leaves a lot of people scratching their heads trying to remember when the Mustang came out as a station wagon.
Thought I'd throw this in too. All those drag racers removing weight from their Mustangs seem to have never glanced at the shipping weight of a cheap Fairmont two-door...hint, hint.
