I might do that friction, steel, friction thing you are tlaking about now. Adder my new steels have 23 teeth...thats weird i didn't realize that. Anyways...No one answered my question lol. I need to know what size shim to use!

there all differenti believe. like i said earlier i do mine as titght as i can. if its to tight you cant get the spiders in so drop to the next smallest shim.

Yeah, your shim will be different to mine due to wear. I would just reuse the shim that was in there and replace the clutches. When I did mine, that is what I did, it was tight(new clutches) and had worked great.

Question...is there an upgrade for the spring..something stronger?

yes, out of a heavy duty 31 spline carrier. just get a spring for say a 94 f150 4x4

yes, out of a heavy duty 31 spline carrier. just get a spring for say a 94 f150 4x4
There is also a rumor that you can swap the internal gears from a F-150 carrier into your stock carrier as a way to upgrade to 31 spline axles.

Which would be good if you had already done a gear install, cuz then you wouldnt have to worry about re-setting the rear end for a different carrier!

It will BUT.... if you swap carriers AFTER having gears installed, you must re-set backlash... So i was trying to find a easier, cheaper way for people who already have gears installed to swap to 31 spline axles
