If the rear axle ratio is the same between the 7.5 and the one on your donor car, then it's just a matter of the gear working in the C4. Take them both out and compare - you've got nothing to lose. But more likely than not the 7.5 has a different ratio (due to the 4banger not having nearly as much power) which would throw the speedo way off.

Well I'm not sure what the ratio is in the 7.5 but its stock so i believe it's 3.73 or so. As far as the 8.8 I'll be swapping in I am going to put 3.73 in it also. Hopefully I'm right about the ratio being 3.73 in the 7.5 rear. I'll ask around tonight and see . As far as the speedo gear , how do i check it? Gotta pull the extension housing?

Nope,it's right on the end of the speedo cable,just take out the 7/16" bolt and pull out the cable,you may need to wiggle it or twist it to get it out,sometimes they get stuck in the tail housing,hope this helps.
